On this cold and windy morning, the husband and I ventured out to one of our local book store to meander through the isles, looking for additions to our ever growing library. People say to never judge a book by it’s cover, but the cover is usually what strikes enough interest to select a book and read it’s synopsis. I think a cover is one of the most important parts of a book. It is the first thing the reader sees when they pick it up and the last thing they see when they set it down.

Example A. The contrast of gold on black with the foreshadowing of a mystical eye with a sword running through it’s iris intrigues. The hardcover is just as gorgeous as the dust jacket. This is the exact reason I picked this book up a number of months ago. I am a cover shopper and it had me drawn in, along with the tantalizing snippet I read within it. The Atlas Six was on the self of top 20 books at the time (in 4th place I believe). When waiting for my hot chai from the cafe located in the bookstore, I always browse this section. Check out my Reading List for my thoughts on.

Example B. A beautiful cover by a knowingly amazing author. I did not get the first book in the Crescent City series today, but I am excited to get into this after The Court series. A bookworm friend of mine strongly recommended this series after I fell in love with the first of The Court series, but said to take a fantasy- break before starting it due to its similar writing style of The Court series. So, we will see how much time it takes to recovery from the pain of a beloved series ending.

Whenever I enter into a book store, new or used, there is a quiet feeling of excitement, enveloped in warm peacefulness that comes over me. Each book holds a whole world to be discovered. Books are like little planets all unto their own. Walking down the isles and rows of thousands of books feels surreal in the sense of an astronomer peering through their telescope at millions of galaxies and solar systems. The feeling of unquantifiable opportunity of looking into these worlds and the chance to love or hate their occupants, is one of the few things that enhances a sense of life to me. The impact a book can have on you is significant, but a whole building filled with them is indescribable.
