Book Writing

Writing a book is one of the most emotionally confusing and mentally exhausting undertaking one can make.

As I was packing, I found a very rough draft of a short story I started years ago as part of a creative writing class stuck in a box of things to forget. I read through the draft and two things happened. First, I was feverishly marking the page up with all the writing mistake I made and second, I thought damn, this would make a good book.

Now, I am not one to ‘toot my own horn’, but when I worked as a freelance writer and proof reader, I learned how to quickly decide if a piece was worth sending on up the line or not. When I read that forgotten-in-a-box story, I was shocked by the creativity I had at that time.

Since reading that awful draft, I have rewritten what was already attempted and took it so much further. I have the plot all graphed out, a map created, character list running, and most importantly, a title.

In the hopes of not jinxing anything, I do not want to get into any details about the book until I feel like it is more concrete. With that said, this is a boost in my desire to pick up writing again, just as this blog has done.

If you have started a novel, did you finished it, or hopelessly abandoned it?
