A Life update:
*low whistle* well, we made it.
We made it to Washington and to the house we fought so hard to get. Let me tell you, it was well worth all the headache and frustration. Our new house is immaculate! It is a roomy 3 bedroom, 2 and a half bath, two story home on base. We have an attached garage and the biggest kitchen we have ever had. I am absolutely in love with it!
The husband had to fly back to Florida 3 days after we got here to finish up work and close out of our old house, giving me the perfect amount of time to get this place all unpacked and ready. He will only be here for about a month and a half before flying out to Japan, but I want to make sure he does not have to worry about anything before then.
The drive went alright, just a cracked windshield and a lot of white-knuckling in the high winds on the Midwest/Mountain highways, but we made it safe. The animals did pretty good (we have travel sedatives to thank for that) and all of the hotels were great. We decided to stay in military hotels along the way, all but one were air force (the other was space force). This gave us a sense of security as far as having literally all of our belongings in the Uhaul truck, that no one on a base would break in and drive off with them. This is something I highly recommend to other military families doing a PPM move over long distances. Overall, it went as well as it could, despite a bit of intense weather.
With all the new space in this house, there are a few pieces of furniture to get, but the one I am most excited for is new book shelves. I have been using two of those 1X1X1-foot cubby shelves from Fred Meyers for the last 8 years. My library has grown significantly since getting them and even with double stacking the books, they do not come close to all fitting. Being the classic bookworm and Pinterest enthusiast that I am, I have my sights set on the IKEA Billy Bookcases. I think at least 3, plus/minus a corner unit, will be enough space for the growing collection, but also fit the space nicely.
In having all my books back out of their jail boxes, I can continue adding to my Reading Lists (Do and Don’t Bother) as well as having an active TBR (To Be Read) List, as I attempt a metamorphosis from book dragon to bookworm. Less hoarding and more reading.
The book writing is has been going pretty good. Page 30 turned to page 130 pretty quick. I do write without stopping, as editing as I go slows me down, but I am getting really excited about this story. I can see it so clearly in my head as I write that sometimes my fingers cannot move fast enough. Let’s just hope the end result is just as stimulating for others as the processes is for me.
School work understandably slowed down a bit during all the craze of packing, cleaning, moving, and unpacking, but getting back into it. I also start back at work on Friday! I was lucky enough to have a long-standing job opening at the hospital I worked at before we left for Virginia in 2019 and am elated to see how it has grown. Starting off slow with 2 to 3 days a week until the husband leaves, but it is going to feel so good getting back to the job I love. There will be a page here about working in a veterinary hospital, going through veterinary technician school, and overall vet med.
When I first started this blog, it took off better than I thought it would, but your blog is only going to get traffic if you post regularly, so that is another plan for this ‘fresh start’. I lived essentially alone for 7 months during my husbands last deployment, and yes we will be able to visit each other now and then during this overseas assignment, but it will be 2+ years basically on my own. I feel that in having this blog as an outlet of sorts will be beneficial in keeping tabs on my mental health and accountability for my responsibilities. If any other mil spo’s have advice, I am open to it, but be advised, I am not exactly the ‘typical’ military spouse. More of the goth, forest, swamp witch who prefers animals to people that just happened to fall in love with a sailor.
Thank you for reading.
