A little late in the month, I know, but I saw this idea and wanted to give it a try. I usually do not set specific periods of time to read a certain amount of books within, but I do have a bit of a schedule to keep right now.
Currently waiting for two books to be released in the two series I am currently reading. The next book, Iron Flame, will be out November 10th, 2023. So, really I have until then to crush some of my TBR down, but why not see what I can read in a month.
Already this month, I have read the second in the Crescent City series, House of Breath and Sky.
The first, House of Earth and Blood, had me screaming with all of the plot twists and the emotional roller coaster that is a SJM book, but the end of the second?!
No spoilers, but holy hell do I need the next! Unfortunately, House of Flame and Shadow does not release until January 30th, 2024, but you know we already have that pre-order 😉

The other book already finished this month, is Fourth Wing. Simply, one of the best books I have ever read. I have always looooved dragons, but finding a strong, female, main character with the same genetic connective tissue disorder that I do? STOP! Not only was this a compelling first book in an anticipated five-book series, but to finally see someone like me, someone always labeled as ‘broken’ and ‘fragile’ overcome everyone’s criticism and get two fucking dragons?! Say no more!
I only have two other books planned for the month. I know a lot of book bloggers can read 10+ books a month, but I always decide on the behemoth of books, despite my dyslexia.

The Hobbit was my current read, but also a reread, so I am pausing on this to read the Cat and Mouse Duet. I am not fully annotating as I read, but I am tabbing my favorite quotes, songs, riddles, and parts as I go.
First read The Hobbit in high school, but not since. Unlike a lot of people, I did like the movie adaptation.
I wanted to reread with the pictures of the movie in mind, but also to read The Hobbit before The Lord of the Rings.

Not even sure I will be able to finish The Lord of the Rings before the end of the month. Really, I do have until November, but let’s see if I can make the challenge.
This is mostly a reread, but I was thinking the other day that even though I had written several essays and papers based off of LOTR and The Hobbit, I don’t know that I have really read all three books, cover to cover, sequentially.
Time to change that!

*FINISHED*
I added the Cat and Mouse Duet by H.D. Carlton to my September TBR after being drawn in an obsessing with he hype for these books. I read this one in about 4 days (stupid work getting in the way) and absolutely loved it. There were a few icks and cringes with some of the writing, but overall a very hauntingly-beautiful book. It ends so abruptly, but I had bought both books at the same time so I could drive right into the next one.

The second book and the one I am currently reading. She’s a good 649 pages, but that’s only 60 some pages more than the first that only took 4 days. Zane better get his girl or I will be just as feral as him. The Author’s Notes states: “If you are expecting a quick reunion, then this book isn’t for you.” Which is nerve racking, buuuut it is followed by, “Don’t worry, there’s not any less spice.” And the trigger warning pages divulges that it is far darker than the first, so sign me up!
Not a long list of books, but my copy of the LOTR is 1,008 pages as it is a three-in-one copy. The Hobbit won’t take long either, so I am hopeful.
*What does your September TBR look like?
*Have you read any of these titles or plan to?
*If you did, what did you think?
Thank you for reading!
