Everything With Nothing

To read a book more than once out of personal interest rather than requirement is not only and ode to the author but a display of love from a true bibliophile.

As someone who jumps from one book to the next the second my eyes pass over ‘The End,’ I rarely do reread books. The list of books I have chose to reread (not as a requirement for a class) is quite short:

• The Picture of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde
• Babel by R.F. Kuang
• The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell
• The Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G. Wells
• All of the Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
• The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman

As my eyes roam over my growing library, this last on, The Yellow Wallpaper, has to the story I have read the most. Admittedly, my introduction to this short story was in a high school literature class, but it is one that I revisit often. Any time it has subsequently reoccurred in a ‘required reading’ list, a flare of excitement comes over me.

The last time I read this story was for a class, and was paired alongside My Last Duchess by Robert Browning under the observation of linear narcissism of men in both stories. For a full read through of my essay written on the topic, see the link below.
